How To Create A Statement Summer Jug Arrangement

Make an impact on your dresser with late summer floral froth!

Celebrate late summer with a fresh and delicately vibrant vintage jug arrangement. This is a large statement arrangement, which is perfect for your dinner table, kitchen island or dresser.

Take a square piece of chicken wire about 50cm x 50cm, and scrunch into a loose ball. You will almost certainly need to adjust the width so it fits comfortable into the base of the jug. You want it to be snug, but not so tight that its impenetrable to stems. Once you’ve perfected the chicken wire ball for your chosen jug, you can keep it and reuse it again and again.

I’ve chosen a very soft and fresh palette of greens and whites, with a soft blush pink accent. This is a ‘filler only’ arrangement without any traditionally ‘focal’ blooms. This design is about movement and texture.

Build your shape by taking the most sculptural of your elements, in this case Ammi, and create shape and movement. With a jug arrangement I place more angular stems in the spout, and build the design up a bit higher near the handle. Use all of your ingredients in turn, before adding accent touches to finish.

Stem Count Guide : x8 bushy branching elements such as Ammi Majus - x10 upright foliage elements such as Mint - 7x branching foliage elements such as Thlapsi - x15 grasses such as Briza - x11 interest accents such as Silene
